Panasonic1 vows shipping 152-inch 3D plasma TV by January

Panasonic at InfoComm introduced the world's largest 4K HD 3D professional plasma display, the TH-152UX1. The display has a 4096x2160 resolution, which is equivalent to nine 50-inch screens. The aspect ratio is 17:9, and the set is mostly meant for use in work such as 3D CAD work, health care, although it's also seen as being useful for ultra-luxury home theaters.

Sony: PSP Go was an experiment in gaming trends

The PSP Go was an experiment to see where the mobile gaming industry was going, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe head Andrew House claimed on Tuesday. He justified the handheld to MCV as a way to "learn more about what the consumer wanted" rather than as a replacement for the original model. While House admitted the Go faced poor sales, he contended that the sales themselves didn't matter as much as the lessons learned.

Apple posts web, iTunes video of WWDC 2010 keynote

Less than a day after the event, Apple has posted two different video versions of the 2010 WWDC keynote. On Apple's website is a streaming version, encoded in three different quality levels for QuickTime. iTunes 9.2 on verge of release

In an unexpected turn, Apple has announced that it is renaming the iPhone OS. It will now simply be called iOS, reflecting its use on devices like the iPad. Apple culling widget apps from App Store?

Apple is actively removing apps with widgets from the App Store, claims developer Russell Ivanovic. The coder says he was recently called by an Apple representative and told his own title, MyFrame, was being pulled because the company is looking to remove any app that presents widgets. Before it disappeared, My Frame was capable of displaying an extra layer of data on top of photos, in a manner similar to the Mac Dashboard or Microsoft's Gadgets layer in Windows.

Apple has been considering hiding solar collectors within some of its handhelds, a recent patent application suggests. Described in the document is a way of weaving solar cells into a display, thereby keeping them off of a device's outside surfaces and still allowing easy reach by light. Chillingo has announced a new licensing agreement with Fox Digital Entertainment for publishing official iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad games based on the upcoming sci-fi film, Predators. The game will be developed by Angry Mob Games, and is expected to be available in time for the film's theatrical release on July 9th. Johnny Coghlan, Head of Publishing at Chillingo has expressed his excitement in the project, “The film’s fast-paced, suspenseful action provides the perfect environment for thrilling gameplay design.” No official details for the game have been announced yet, but a short teaser trailer has been posted on YouTube.

The final v1.6 release should come after Apple officially launches the updated iPhone firmware, likely in tandem with upgraded hardware.

    Dejal Systems has launched a new version of its Twitter companion app, Tweeps 2.0. The update offers a new iPad compatible version, as well as improvements to the iPhone-based one. Additionally, the avatar editing feature has been temporarily disabled, due to incompatibility with the newly integrated xAuth open platform used for authentication.

    EA Mobile has unveiled a new iPad version of its word-search game, Boggle, originally released for the iPhone and iPod touch. The game offers three different modes to play through, and allows users to go head-to-head with friends, or challenge them via e-mail. Other features include unlockable achievements, and integrated iTunes music control.

 

CopyCatX 5.0 supports Snow Leopard, copies files, folders

SubRosaSoft.com has released an update to its drive duplication software for the Mac, CopyCatX 5.0. The software uses sector copying and can quickly create an exact duplicate of a hard drive, including a Mac OS X boot drive, or an iPod. It can also clone Boot Camp drives and Windows, TiVo and Linux drives. It uses proprietary resizing technology on HFS Plus drives to recover lost space after a cloning.
